Really powerful. I love how it’s filmed on a phone in the pouring rain. Bravura performance, strong writing.

  • Sybil Dormer says:

Powerful performance by Dave House, brilliant writing by Jayne Woodhouse, loved it.

  • Just a loser with a lock down mobile phone. But a genius wrote the script.

  • Joanna says:

What a powerful performance. The character was so well portrayed and really felt so much sympathy with him, even though he really had nothing really going for him. The filming was perfect, adding to his desperation. So well written, Jayne, with such feeling and observation.

  • Emma G says:

Excellent performance from Mr House. The way it was filmed, and the night time and rain, and street walking, all really helped underline the hopeless, helplessness of his situation. Excellent emotions, anger, frustration, loathing and love. Brilliant. Well done.

  • Hazel Dunn says:

Brilliant emotional performance by David House…and beautifully written by Jayne Woodhouse….such a lovely idea that we are able to view these plays during lockdown. Well done to all at Loosely Based Theatre Company.

  • Summer Moeed says:

This was beautiful and so compelling! I just loved it. Torn between loathing and pitying the poor bloke, I think the pity won out in the end. Amazing writing and great performance!!!

    • Linda Hamilton-Ross says:

Oh bless him. He knew what he was doing with the dog. Completely out of his depth with human beings.
Very well written Jayne and perfectly acted. You could almost believe that is the kind of guy David House is! He’s reached to some deep places for that.

  • John hanaway says:

The performance here is an outstanding one.
You are slowly drawn into this poor souls world.
I felt every twist and turn of the emotions.
The loss, the anger, the regret, and the compassion despite to come back to the surface & beat the demons in control.
The filmmaking choices pushed the narrative along very effectively
Well done Dave, and to everyone involved.

    • Lucy R says:

What a great idea for bringing the theatre to us during lockdown! Excellent performance in the elements, i loved the contrast between the tenderness when talking about the dog and the rage when talking about the wife and son, very unnerving. Bravo!

  • Dave says:

That was ‘beautiful’ Dave, I even got a bit wheepy at the end of it. Sort of thought he’d top himself at the end of it. I was really drawn in and the way you filmed it worked. Bet people around you thought you were some homeless nutter. Very well acted Dave, you’re meant for big things

  • Emily L says:

Incredible performance. Dave captured the whirlwind of emotions very well throughout; anger towards his wife, sadness for his loss and tenderness towards Bella. Powerful and felt very real. Despite his self-pitying, it was difficult to feel sympathy towards Dave’s character as it was clear how his dependency on alcohol was the reason behind his situation; despite him trying to pin the blame on others. Beautifully written and an excellent performance. Can’t wait to watch the next one!

  • A. Keene says:

The sadness of deteriatration and social disconnection comes across, hinting at a possible salvation if he had had the chance to remain at home, unlikely though it was. The anger of his family turned to hate indicate the other side of the coin and the disbelief, or revenge, that he’d change for the dog, shows the horror of alcoholism. A very good story, well acted.

  • Sandra Horn says:

This was a terrific start to the short season of dramas – strong, punchy writing and a great performance, which made me feel a mixture of touched by and sorry for the poor sad drunk, and then increasingly repelled by his self-pitying , self-justifying take on his plight. It was impossible not to feel that involved! Well done to everyone. I can hardly wait for the next one now.

  • Michelle Moore says:

The originality and hurried pace of the play, ‘Beautiful’, is a talented one. Realistic tones paint a picture of an intricate drama unfurling, whilst the actor ‘spoke to me’, as though I was on the phone with him. The heightened tones were aided by the dark, rainy night, and walking away from the scene.
    An exciting, original, drama.

  • Jenny Oborn says:

Thought it was an excellent performance. If I had come in part way through, I would have thought it was a blog. Totally convincing and the distress and emotion were very powerful. Great stuff.

    • Josian Gallop says:

A wonderful performance that had me captured from the get go! A brilliantly written piece that Dave bought alive. Well done all!

  • Anthony Hall says:

Dave House is a consummate professional and I consider this work to be amongst the best he has ever produced.

    Congratulations on a sterling performance!

  • Jacinta says:

Wow, this was so intense! Great work Dave, super hard watch, and felt very truthful.
